First Visit to Hair Salon

Every one realizes fashion - sooner or later. In Amma's case, she realized that pretty soon. Haircuts at home had some distinct advantages - and some disadvantages too. The advantages were obvious - convenience and zero-cost. The disadvantages aren't so obvious - and I won't mention them. Because, I cannot criticize my parents :-)

Last weekend, we went to Toledo for our regular Indian groceries shopping. Are you asking "Why Toledo?" - that is another story for another post. Anyway, in Toledo we saw Cookie Cutters (kids salon). Amma and nanna wanted to take me there just to find some information. At first, I was very reluctant to get in. But once I stepped into the salon, I fell in love with that place. They had crayons, nice toys, lots and lots of videos (Barney, Dora, Sponge Bob, Mickey Mouse), lollipops and different kinds of chairs (doggie, aeroplane, car). And each chair had its own TV and portable DVD player!

No prizes for what DVD I chose! It was Barney obviously. I wanted to sit in the doggie chair and enjoy the DVD (and get my haircut, obviously). But even before I could go near it, another kid chose that chair. So, I compromised with the aeroplane. I sat in that and was enjoying Barney. Suddenly, I saw a lady cutting my hair with the little scissors. How dare she cut my hair without my permission!

You know that I don't like anyone touching my hair. Even when I had my hair cut at home, I wouldn't let Amma do that but somehow she managed to do it without me paying too much attention. But here in a public place, Barney or not, no way!!!

I wiggled my head, I bawled a bit. Still, the lady didn't give up. She tried very hard to cut my hair... and poor thing, she cut her fingers twice. Finally, Amma and Nanna gave up. And I ended up with only half of my hair cut - just in the back!

Final Result - Except for the haircut, I enjoyed the place very well and was not happy to come out. So much so that, Amma and Nanna had to carry me out - while I bawled yet again.

Too bad that I dont have any pictures of the haircut-in-progress, or of me immediately after.
